Who does the GDPR apply to?

What you'll need

  • Nothing

Steps

  1. GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) applies based on whose data you're processing, not where your business or your WiFi network is located — if any guest connecting to your network is in the EU/EEA, GDPR obligations apply to that guest's data regardless of where your hardware physically sits.
  2. This catches more resellers than expect it: any venue with international visitors — hotels, airports, tourist-area retail, conference venues — should treat GDPR as a baseline assumption, not an edge case reserved for EU-based businesses.
  3. The two controls that determine your exposure are opt-in consent (the guest's explicit marketing-consent checkbox captured at login) and terms/privacy policy display at login — both configured on the campaign's Advanced tab.
  4. Enable both by default even if you're not fully sure GDPR applies to a given location — it's a safer default than leaving them off and finding out later that it did.

Best practice: read GDPR overview for the full compliance picture, and About compliance and consent for how opt-in and terms acceptance work as two separate controls.
