GDPR and MyWiFi

What you'll need

  • Nothing

Steps

  1. MyWiFi acts as a data processor for the guest information your campaigns collect; you (the business running the network) are the data controller.
  2. That split means MyWiFi provides the tools — opt-in forms (the guest's explicit marketing-consent checkbox captured at login), terms display, data export/deletion on request — but you decide how guest data is used and are responsible for honoring guest rights requests.
  3. To handle a guest's data request (access, correction, deletion), find their profile under Contacts and use the profile actions there.

How it works

"Controller" and "processor" aren't just legal labels — they determine who does what when a guest emails asking what data you have on them. MyWiFi stores and processes the data (the processor's job); you decide why it was collected and respond to the guest (the controller's job). Every field a guest submits at login — email, phone, name, any custom fields — lands on their guest data profile, which is exactly where you'll go to fulfill a request.

Best practice: keep your Terms and Conditions text (Advanced tab) and your actual data practices in sync — mismatches between what you say and what you do are the most common compliance gap, not the technical setup.
