About compliance and consent

What is compliance and consent, and how does it affect me?

Compliance is the action of ensuring that your processes and policies are within the bounds of the regulations that you and/or your clients are operating within. We provide a wide array of tools to assist you in meeting your individual compliance goals, such as the ability to customize the terms of service, change the collected information, add a content filter, add integrations, and add time controls.

Consent is the act of the guest agreeing to participate in the activity that is clearly outlined in the request for consent, such as enrolling in a newsletter or contest, or being sent a feedback request.

Put simply, in this context, Compliance is making sure you're following the data collection rules, while Consent is the guest agreeing to you collecting their data.

What is the GDPR?

The European Union’s (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was created with the purpose of regulating the way that EU citizens’ personal data is protected by companies, and of replacing the previous Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC.

Organizations that operate within the EU or that process EU citizens’ data must adapt their technology methodologies and policies to the new regulation and become compliant.

The UK will not be part of the EU as of the end of 2020, but have passed a law (The Data Protection Act 2018) which mirrors the GDPR.

Note: If you are not located in the EU/UK, or conduct any business in the EU/UK, you do not have to adhere to the GDPR, but may choose to still add a layer of data privacy and extra Guest Opt-In
