Why did device flashing fail?

If you flashed your new router with our firmware and received an error that says that the firmware flashing failed, something went wrong while installing the firmware.

First, make sure that your device is on our list of supported devices, as we can only support devices that have proven to be compatible with MyWiFi.

Once you have confirmed this, make sure that the firmware you are using to flash the device matches the model, version, and hardware number of your device. If it doesn't, please try re-flashing the device.

TIP: You can find the version/model/hardware number on the rear of your device.

Error: 18005 - Please check the file name

This error is most common with TP-Link devices, and reads:

Upgrade unsuccessful because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name.

This has two potential causes: either the wrong firmware was being used to install, or there is a location lock on the device issued by TP-Link. Please follow the steps above, and if it's still not working, contact support -- we'll be able to pinpoint the cause of the problem.

Contacting Support

When contacting support about this, please make sure to include:

  • A picture of the underside of your device
  • A screenshot of the MyWiFi Default SSID
  • A picture of the device connection setup

This will help us help you as quickly as possible, and get your device up and running!
