Why do my AdSense ads display as code in my campaign?

What you'll need

  • Nothing

Steps

  1. Raw AdSense code shows up as text instead of a rendered ad because captive portals (the mini-browser window a phone opens automatically when a guest joins WiFi) run in a more restrictive browser context — a <script> tag pasted into a text or custom-HTML field is often shown as plain code instead of executed.
  2. This usually happens when AdSense's embed code gets pasted into a generic field instead of a proper ad asset. MyWiFi's supported path is Ads Manager (a legacy/enterprise-plan feature), where you create the ad — including a custom code type — as a reusable asset, place it in an Ad Zone, and assign that zone to your campaign (a splash page plus its login methods, branding, and post-login behavior, reusable across locations). See Ads Manager overview.
  3. On the campaign side, open the Ads tab, toggle on Advertisements, and select the Ad Zones you want to show — see Display campaign ads.
  4. If you're pasting raw ad code into Add HTML on the Thank You tab instead, expect the same limitation there — that field is meant for self-contained widgets and embeds, not third-party ad scripts. See Add custom HTML code to your campaign.

Note: MyWiFi's ad platform (interstitial ad pods, ad-network integrations, revenue reporting) is still rolling out in stages. Check with your account team on current availability before relying on it for revenue.
