When should I use paid WiFi?

What you'll need

Steps

  1. Use Paid WiFi — the Credit Card login option — in venues where guests already expect to pay for premium connectivity: hotels, cruise terminals, transit hubs, and similar transient, high-traffic locations.
  2. In most other venues — cafes, retail, restaurants — guests expect WiFi to be free, so putting a paywall in front of the splash page (the branded login page guests see when they join your WiFi) suppresses connection rates rather than generating meaningful revenue.
  3. A better fit for most locations is offering Paid WiFi as an upgrade tier alongside a free method (see Free WiFi login): guests who don't want to pay can still get online, while guests who want a premium connection can opt in.
  4. When you do enable it, pricing and session duration are configured in the Credit Card option's own setup panel — see Paid WiFi login for the full setup steps.

Best practice: default to a free login method for most venues, and reserve Paid WiFi for locations where a paywall matches guest expectations. See Login Options for how to combine both on the same splash page.
