Assign a device to a location

What you'll need

  • A device already added
  • The location you want to move it to already created in MyWiFi

Steps

  1. Every device is assigned to a location — one physical venue in MyWiFi, with its own devices, campaigns, and guest data — when it's first added. See Router & hardware setup overview for that create flow.
  2. To move an existing device to a different location, go to Devices and click Edit Device on it.
  3. Open the Edit tab and change the Location dropdown to the new location.
  4. Click Update to save.

How it works

Moving a device reconnects it with the new location's settings — that location's campaign (a splash page plus its login methods, branding, and post-login behavior) and its session limits (daily time limit, bandwidth caps, content filter). A device belongs to exactly one location at a time, so guests connecting through it always see that location's campaign, not the old one's.

Best practice: reassign a device between locations only when the hardware has actually physically moved. Reassigning without moving the hardware points guests connecting through that access point at the wrong location's campaign and settings — they'll see the wrong splash page and be held to the wrong limits.
