What you'll need
- A Stripe-billed account with SMS carrier registration completed (see Set up SMS login)
- On WhatsApp specifically: either a Growth plan or higher, or the WhatsApp add-on added to your plan
Steps
- Go to Account Settings → Messaging (
/user/editprofile#messaging). - If you're not yet entitled to a dedicated WhatsApp number, the WhatsApp Sending Account card shows an upsell to add it for a monthly add-on price, or upgrade to a Growth plan (which includes it). Add the add-on, or upgrade, to continue.
- Once entitled and SMS setup is complete, scroll to Sender Numbers on this Account and click Rent a number.
- Choose a country (US or Canada), a number type (Local or Toll-free), and optionally an area code, then search. Pick a number from the results to rent it — it's registered to your account and becomes an available sender immediately.
- Send yourself a test code to confirm the number actually delivers before guests rely on it.
Renting a managed number carries a monthly cost, charged from your Credit Wallet — it shows up in your Transaction History as "WhatsApp number rental." It isn't shown at the moment you pick a number, so check your wallet's transaction history after renting to see what it charged.
Best practice: always send yourself a test code after renting a number, before turning WhatsApp login on for a live campaign — this is the fastest way to catch a carrier-registration or template issue before a guest hits it.
