What you'll need
- A journey in progress (see Create a journey)
Steps
- When creating or editing a journey, open the trigger picker. Today it offers five triggers:
- Guest captured — a guest logs in through any of your campaigns and hasn't yet been captured by this journey.
- No return — a guest hasn't come back within a set number of days.
- First-time visitor — a guest is logging in for the very first time ever on your network.
- Returning visitor — a guest has logged in before and is back.
- Birthday — the guest's birthday, if you collect date of birth on your login form.
- Choose the trigger that matches when you want this journey to start, then continue building the rest of the sequence.
- A guest only enrolls in a journey once per trigger match, going forward from when you publish the journey — it doesn't scan backward for guests who already matched before the journey existed.
Best practice: "First-time visitor" and "Guest captured" are easy to confuse — first-time visitor fires the moment someone is brand new to your network, while guest captured fires any time a guest logs in and hasn't been captured by that specific journey yet. Pick first-time visitor for true welcome sequences.
