Set up Extreme Networks with MyWiFi

Before you roll out: test guest login on one access point first. MyWiFi recognises Extreme's external-portal redirect by the hs_server and Qv parameters it adds. If your splash page shows a generic page instead of your venue's campaign, email support@mywifinetworks.com with the full address of the page.

What you'll need

  • Admin access to your ExtremeCloud IQ (XIQ) dashboard.
  • The MAC address of every access point that will broadcast the guest SSID (the WiFi network name guests see when connecting).
  • MyWiFi's RADIUS server address and shared secret, and your MyWiFi splash page URL (RADIUS is the standard protocol your hardware uses to ask MyWiFi whether a guest may go online). These aren't shown in the dashboard, so email support@mywifinetworks.com for them before you start.
  • A MyWiFi location (one physical venue in MyWiFi, with its own devices, campaigns, and guest data) already created.
  • These steps cover XIQ Cloud. If you manage an on-premises XIQ Controller, contact MyWiFi support for the controller-specific setup.

Steps

  1. In XIQ, create (or edit) your guest SSID with open authentication.
  2. Under that SSID's Captive Web Portal settings, set the authentication type to "Redirection to External URL for Authentication", set encryption to "UAM Basic", and paste in your MyWiFi splash page URL.
  3. Under the same SSID's AAA configuration, add a RADIUS server group pointing to MyWiFi's RADIUS server, with port 1812 for authentication, port 1813 for accounting, and the shared secret.
  4. Add the MyWiFi portal domains to the SSID's Walled Garden, the short list of domains guests can reach before logging in.
  5. Apply the network policy to your access points and push the configuration.
  6. In the MyWiFi dashboard, go to Devices and click Add New Device.
  7. Select the Location, enter a Device Name, and under Select Your Hardware choose Extreme Networks.
  8. In MAC Address, paste the MAC addresses of every access point that serves the guest SSID, separated by commas. Then click Confirm Setup. MyWiFi doesn't connect to XIQ or sync your inventory, so add new access points to this list yourself.

Best practice: the Walled Garden is the most common cause of broken guest logins on XIQ. A missing domain breaks the login with no error shown to the guest, so check it first if guests can't log in.
