Social logins (Google, Facebook, OAuth) are not supported

MyWiFi does not support Google, Facebook, or generic OAuth as a guest login method. There is no setting that enables one, and no plan or add-on unlocks it. If you came here for the OAuth app setup steps that used to be on this page, that feature has been retired — this article explains why, and what to use in its place.

The six login methods MyWiFi supports are the complete list, and the only ones that appear in the Login tab of the campaign builder: Email, Free Wi-Fi, SMS, WhatsApp, Passcode v2, and Credit Card.

Why social logins were removed

Google withdrew support for OAuth inside captive-portal browsers — the mini web-view that opens when a guest joins your Wi-Fi — in 2016, and other providers followed. Those web-views are deliberately sandboxed, so the provider's sign-in page either refuses to load or fails to hand the session back. The guest ends up on a blank screen with no internet and no idea why.

Rather than ship a login button that fails for most guests on most phones, MyWiFi removed the social methods entirely. Google login went first, in early 2017. Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, LinkedIn, VKontakte and the generic OAuth connector followed. None of them have a working sign-in handler on the portal today, which is why none of them appear in the builder.

What to use instead

Pick the supported method that matches what you were trying to get from social login:

  • You wanted the guest's verified email for marketing — use Email. It is the closest replacement, and produces a cleaner marketing list than a social profile did.
  • You wanted a verified, reachable contact — use SMS or WhatsApp. Both confirm the guest actually controls the number, which social login never guaranteed.
  • You wanted the fastest possible connection — use Free Wi-Fi.

What you'll need

  • A campaign in the builder
  • One of the six supported login methods chosen from the list above

Steps

  1. Open the Login tab in your campaign.
  2. Click your chosen method in the left-hand list to enable it. A green bar and drag handle appear once it's active.
  3. If this campaign was built before the removal, it may still show a social or OAuth row. That row is marked as no longer supported and cannot be switched on — the only action available on it is Remove. Remove it, or guests arriving at that campaign may have no working way to sign in.
  4. Save your campaign.

Note: this is separate from OAuth in the MyWiFi API. The dashboard still uses OAuth to authorise API and integration clients, and that is unaffected. This article is only about how guests sign in to your Wi-Fi.
